Panel 8: The Power of Propaganda

Though the majority of German citizens did not vote for the Nazi party, the Nazis want all Germans to stand united behind their new government. The Nazis launch a campaign to win the hearts and minds of the people. There are Nazi flags and swastikas everywhere. Posters, magazine articles, and films show how happy the German people are with their new country, called the German Reich. This is called propaganda.

It is used to make Germans feel proud of themselves but also superior to others, as a country and also as a race. No criticism is allowed, so all "un-German" books, art, and culture are banned.

Nazi propaganda portraying Jews as a giant octopus,
squeezing the life-blood out of world humanity.

With only one source of information, the German people come to believe many of the lies and myths that the government broadcasts day after day. It is hard to resist this wave of pride.

Much Nazi propaganda used the slogan "The Jews are
our misfortune". Here opponents of the Nazi regime
have painted over the prefix "mis".
