4: The Nazis Recruit
Adolf
Hitler searches for new recruits in the 1920's.
The Nazis focus on the slums of Germany where
there is high unemployment and little hope for
the future. Hitler tells people to be proud
of being German, that they are a superior race
and that they need to fight for their future.
He hopes that their desire for revenge will
lead them to follow him uncritically.
The
Nazis empower these men by giving them uniforms
and weapons, a purpose and a new identity. They
are called the SA. People everywhere are impressed
with how Hitler has managed to provide even
criminals with discipline and purpose.
Many
others, however, feel that the Nazis threaten
Democracy and human rights.
